La Bola de Cristal Series

La Bola de Cristal The ever fabulous Ari of Maximum Rock n Roll writes about finding solace in friendships and house mates while grappling with coping with trauma and transition, getting her shit together and going back to school despite being disenchanted with institutional education, her relationships with cis-men and how damaging they have been and more. Cut and paste collages, heavy text, witty and relateable. Love It!

La Bola de Cristal #2 Ari’s second volume of “La Bola de Cristal” doesn’t disappoint in all it’s cut n’ paste spectacular – weaving together sick drawings with reflections on punk houses, breaking cycles of abuse, navigating boundaries with partners, friends, and roommates. They intimately and beautifully reflect on death, relationships, polyamory, and gender identity and presentation - as well as ending the zine with lists, reviews, and recommendations of all the real cool stuff that the author witnessed in 2014 – I’m still laughing at the accuracy of the ‘post-mysterious guy aesthetic” and outrageously large punk buttons. Bless queer brown punx.

La Bola de Cristal #3 "I just try really hard to not be a piece of shit while also having a good time, calling bullshit, pushing limits, challenging people, making bros uncomfortable all while looking really good" The third issue of La Bola de Cristal is beautiful quarter zine of cut n' paste goodness with intimate, powerful, and real ass realizations from beloved Ari. Includes their interview from FIX MY HEAD #7, musings on emotional labor, reflections on the Think and Die Thinking panel on punk, and an important call-to-action for trans sex worker and political prisoner, Niara. As always, Ari offers insightful and vital critiques of radical politics, queer communities, and the hardcore punk scene, all while being hilarious, sassy, and relatable. FREENIARA.WORDPRESS.COM
