On Struggling Series
On Struggling: Identity: This is the kind of zine that brings comfort to the troubled soul. The kind of zine that helps relieve the tension you have stored up in your body. I read it cover to cover, avoiding everything and everybody until it's completion. I read it at felt okay about myself and identity. “On Struggling: Identities” is a collection of essays and poetry about our complex identities and how we navigate living in complex dualities. Highlighting the struggles of second, third, fourth generation People of Color it creates an important space for those of us who are pioneering new definitions and new cultures of Color.

On Struggling #2 Self Care: This is zine is the perfect read for folks who are struggling with their health, especially mental health. Brown and Proud Press's second edition of “On Struggling” focuses on self-care. Essays, poetry and art work from different folks about dealing with a variety of issues regarding self care and the roots of suffering and illness. Folks write from different perspectives, including family histories, coping with s and deconstructing the roots illness and figuring out how it manifests in our bodies. This zine brings together an insightful group of writers/artists and creates a zine that puts words to difficult feelings.
On Struggling #3: Bodies Another powerful anthology from Brown and Proud Press! I am not gonna lie I kinda hate poetry in zines, but this zine makes me reconsider my anti-poetry stance. The poems that are encapsulated in this zine are like a warm blanket of comfort, evoking the same power of Gloria Anzaldua, Ana Castillo and Sandra Cisneros. The essays are all beautifully written and honest in a way that is brutal and equally beautiful. The words that you find between these pages will make you feel vulnerable, triggered but safe and understood all in the same moment. A zine full of truly talented writers and a team of talented people! It is an honor to be carrying this zine!
