Sidai 000: Stories of Our Bodies

Sidai 000: Stories of Our Bodies is a full color photography zine by Ameerah Craigg
From Ameerah: "I made the Sidai: Stories of our Bodies zine as a safer space for Black folks to honour the African continental and disporic practices of body modification, scarrification, adornment, and beautification."

""Sidai": meaning beautiful, is from the Maa language spoken in Masaai communities originating in eastern parts of the continent, with high concentrations in Kenya and Tanzania. Masaai communities, like many communities on the continent, regularly engage in body modifications. Everyday clothing consists of adorning themselves in naturally made beads, jewels, and stones. The Sidai zine honours this natural and deliberate action of taking charge and adorning our bodies."
