Hilltop Boys

$3.00

HILLTOP BOYS zine is two interviews with family members of crips from Tacoma WA’s Hilltop who were rounded up in a mass arrest of 30 people based on friendship as part of an ongoing operation to socially cleanse and gentrify the hilltop. This zine examines the gentrification of the hilltop, gang life and the people around it, and the violent absurdity and indifference of a rigged legal system for poor black people.

"With the help of various snitches who were manipulated into cooperating, the authorities constructed a cabalistic conspiracy between everyone they rounded up. The prosecution portrayed a cohesive, deliberate structure through which crimes were decided on and executed. The war machine they portrayed in court and media was disciplined and rigid. In reality, the young men they targeted were disorganized and erratic, just like everyone else in Tacoma. There was no cohesion within the organization because there was no organization to begin with. The Tacoma Police Department, itself a vast conspiracy, was very eager to portray these young men as conspirators. Those who conspire always believe others are conspiring against them."
